THE GOSPEL TO THE NATIONS: ENCOUNTERS BY THE SEA

โ€ข After breakfast, check out from your hotel accommodations.

โ€ข Meet your tour educator in the lobby, and together, depart from the hotel.

โ€ข Begin the day in the ancient port city of Jaffa. See the setting of Peterโ€™s vision at Simon the Tannerโ€™s house, gaze toward the waters where Jonah fled from Godโ€™s call and recall how Solomon brought cedars of Lebanon through this very harbor to build the Temple. A place of prophetic encounters, obedience, and Godโ€™s unfolding plan.

โ€ข Travel north along Israelโ€™s coastal highway as it runs adjacent to the Mediterranean Sea.

โ€ข At Caesarea Maritima, the great port city of Herod the Great, walk through the remains of Pontius Pilateโ€™s palace and stand in the Roman theater where crowds once gathered. Visit the ancient hippodrome that hosted chariot races and marvel at the well-preserved aqueduct that carried fresh water to the city. Here Paul was imprisoned before being sent to Rome, and Cornelius the centurion became the first Gentile believerโ€”making Caesarea a cornerstone in the spread of the Gospel.

โ€ข Ascend Mount Carmel, where the prophet Elijah confronted the 450 prophets of Baal and called down fire from heaven, proving that the Lord alone is God. From this dramatic setting, enjoy sweeping panoramic views of the Jezreel Valley, a landscape rich in biblical history and prophecy.

โ€ข At Megiddo, overlook the Jezreel Valley, the prophesied site of Armageddon in the Book of Revelation. Explore the ancient cityโ€™s gates, Solomonโ€™s stables, and fortifications, which once controlled vital trade routes. Walk through the impressive water system carved into the rock โ€“ which dates back to the 9th century, BCE – and reflect on Megiddoโ€™s role as both a center of power in biblical times and a symbol of the ultimate triumph of Godโ€™s kingdom.

BY THE WATERS: FOLLOWING JESUS IN GALILEE

โ€ข After breakfast, meet your tour educator in the lobby, and together, depart from the hotel for a special day devoted to Jesus’ public ministry around the shores of the Sea of Galilee

โ€ข Sail on the Sea of Galilee aboard a replica of the 2,000-year-old โ€œJesus Boat,โ€ discovered along its shores. As you glide across the waters where Jesus walked, calmed the storm, and called His disciples, reflect on the living Gospel stories that unfolded on this very lake.

โ€ข Visit Capernaum, the headquarters of Jesusโ€™ Galilean ministry. See the traditional house of Peterโ€™s mother-in-law, where Jesus healed the sick, and stand in the remains of the ancient synagogue where He taught with authority. Walk the stones of the โ€œtown of Jesusโ€ and experience the heart of His ministry in Galilee.

โ€ข Continue to Tabgha, the traditional site of the miracle of the loaves and fishes. Here, view the famous mosaic depicting two fish and a basket of bread, a lasting symbol of Jesusโ€™ provision and abundance.

โ€ข Drive to the Mount of Beatitudes, the hillside where Jesus delivered the Sermon on the Mount. Read His words of blessing in the very setting where He first spoke them, and reflect on their timeless call to live as citizens of Godโ€™s Kingdom.

โ€ข Afterward, visit Tel Dan Nature Reserve, one of the headwaters of the Jordan River and a lush oasis of flowing streams. Explore the ancient city gate and the high place where King Jeroboam set up a golden calf for the northern kingdom after Solomonโ€™s death. A site of both natural beauty and biblical history, Tel Dan invites reflection on faithfulness to God amidst Israelโ€™s story.

โ€ข Conclude the day at Yardenit on the banks of the Jordan River, a site that recalls the baptism of Jesus. Here, take part in a moving renewal of baptismal vows, reaffirming faith and commitment in the very waters that symbolize new life in Christ.

โ€ข Start the day in Nazareth, the hometown of Jesus. A place of awe and wonder, it celebrates the mystery of the Word made flesh.

โ€ข Visit Nazareth Village, a living history site that recreates daily life in the time of Jesus. Walk through reconstructed homes, terraced fields, and a working olive press as costumed interpreters bring the parables of the New Testament to life in their original setting.

โ€ข Drive through the Jezreel Valley to Beit Shean, also known as Scythopolis, one of the Decapolis cities. THE WAY OF THE CROSS: WALKING WITH JESUS IN JERUSALEM

โ€ข After breakfast, meet your tour educator in the lobby, and together, depart the hotel for a day of exploration in Jerusalem.

โ€ข Begin the day atop the Mount of Olives, taking in a breathtaking panoramic view of Jerusalem.

โ€ข Follow the path of Jesusโ€™ triumphal entry into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday, recalling the crowds who shouted โ€œHosanna!โ€ as He rode down the Mount of Olives. Stop at Dominus Flevit, โ€œThe Lord wept,โ€ where Jesus mourned over Jerusalem, offering a place for prayer and reflection on His deep love for the city and its people.

โ€ข Gaze upon the Temple Mount and imagine its grandeur in the days of Jesus, the heart of Jewish worship and the backdrop of many Gospel events. Continue walking down to the Garden of Gethsemane, where, among ancient olive trees, you will have quiet moments to reflect on Jesusโ€™ agony and prayer, knowing He was about to be betrayed.

โ€ข Enter the Old City of Jerusalem through St. Stephenโ€™s Gate, also known as the Lionโ€™s Gate. Tradition recalls this as the place where the first Christian martyr, Stephen, was stoned. Passing through this historic gateway, step into the ancient streets where Jesus walked during His final days.

โ€ข Visit St. Anneโ€™s Church, famed for its remarkable 11-second echo that enhances the beauty of song and prayer. Just beside it lies the authentic Pool of Bethesda, where Jesus healed the man who had been lame for 38 years, a powerful reminder of His compassion and authority to restore.

โ€ข Walk the Via Dolorosa, tracing the Stations of the Cross through the Old City. Pause at the Sisters of Sion Convent, opposite the Praetorium where Pilate judged Jesus, and continue the path of His suffering. Conclude at the Church of the Holy Sepulcher, venerated as the site of His crucifixion, burial, and resurrection.

โ€ข Walk through the colorful oriental shuk (marketplace) of the Old City, alive with vibrant sights, sounds, and aromas. As you weave through its bustling alleys, take in the rich tapestry of cultures, traditions, and history that have shaped Jerusalem for centuries.

โ€ข Walk to Mount Zion to visit the traditional Tomb of King David, honoring Israelโ€™s great psalmist and king. Nearby, enter the Upper Room, remembered as the place of the Last Supper and the coming of the Holy Spirit at Pentecostโ€”a powerful space of covenant, communion, and commissioning.

โ€ข Conclude at St. Peter in Gallicantu, the traditional site of Caiaphasโ€™ house, where Jesus was held after His arrest. Here, Peter denied his Lord three times before the rooster crowed. The site invites reflection on human weakness, forgiveness, and the steadfast grace of Christ.

โ€ข Descend to the Dead Sea region, the lowest point on earth. Surrounded by dramatic desert landscapes, this unique body of water is rich in minerals and famed for its buoyancy, offering both natural wonder and a reminder of the biblical stories set in this region.

โ€ข Stop at Qumran, where the Essene community lived in seclusion and faithfully copied the Scriptures. Look across to Cave Four, where the greatest number of Dead Sea Scroll fragments were discovered, shedding light on the biblical world and preserving Godโ€™s Word through the ages.

โ€ข Visit Masada, the desert fortress built by Herod the Great and later the site of the Jewish Zealotsโ€™ last stand against Rome. Ascend (via cable car) to the mountaintop to explore its palaces, storerooms, and bathhouses, and take in sweeping views of the Dead Sea region. Masada stands as a powerful symbol of courage, faith, and perseverance.

2. Walking is Part of the Experience: Israel’s beauty lies in its diversity, and exploring it often involves walking. Please be prepared for a fair amount of walking during our tours and excursions. This will allow us to fully immerse ourselves in the local culture and see the sights up close. While we’ll make every effort to provide comfortable walking shoes, we recommend bringing your own comfortable footwear.

3. Fitness and Mobility: Given the walking involved, it’s important to be reasonably fit and mobile. Some sites may have uneven terrain or steps. If you have any mobility concerns or health conditions, please let us know in advance, so we can make suitable arrangements.

4. Weather and Dress Code: Israel’s climate can vary, so it’s wise to pack layers. While our tour dates should bring pleasant weather, it’s a good idea to bring a light jacket, a hat, and sunscreen for added comfort. Modest dress is important when visiting religious sites, so please pack clothing that covers shoulders and knees.

5. Currency and Local Customs: The currency in Israel is the New Israeli Shekel (NIS). Most places also accept credit cards, but it’s advisable to carry some local currency for small purchases. Familiarize yourself with local customs and be respectful of cultural differences.
